Course Overview:

This lecture examines African Fusion Technique at the intersection of Lester Horton technique and West African aesthetics. Through visual analysis of pre‑recorded demonstrations, we explore flat backs, roll downs, and stretch sequences; center work emphasizing undulation, polyrhythm, and polycentrism; across‑the‑floor pathways; and combination design.

  • Horton foundations: alignment, lines, strength
  • African aesthetics: groundedness, isolation, call‑and‑response
  • Fusion in practice: how technique choices shape choreography
